BRASILIA - Soybeans should continue as the main Brazilian export product in 10 years, according to estimates presented today by the Ministry of Agriculture. During this period, however, expected an increase of 37.2% in sales, from 27.6 million tonnes in the 2008/2009 to 37.87 million tonnes in the 2019/2020 cycle.
The General Coordinator of Strategic Planning of the Ministry of Agriculture, Jose Garcia Gasques said, however, that the estimate for growth in 10 years was negatively affected due to the impact of financial crisis. "This rate of growth could be higher," he said. For him, more than half of the expansion of soybean area planted in Brazil in the next 10 years, which should mean an increase of 2.5 million hectares, should occur in the State of Mato Grosso.
In addition to soybeans, they must have an increase in sugar exports (from 21.14 million tons to 32.20 million tons, an increase of 52.3%), ethanol (from 4.68 billion liters to 15.12 billion liters - expansion of 223%), soybean (12.3 million tons to 13.64 million tons, 10.9% acceleration) and cellulose (from 7.04 million tonnes to 11.08 million tons, up 57.39%).
In the case of corn, exports should rise from 7 million tons to 12.62 million tons, an increase of 80.3%. "We must keep the second largest world producer, but the trend is that we get more outspoken," said Gasques, noting that the United States should remain in the lead.
"Brazil's exports may grow at a rate of 4% and 5% to 6% a year," said Agriculture Minister Reinhold Stephanes. He pointed out some products to provide "extraordinary growth" in 10 years, in addition to sugar and alcohol, and beef (from 1.690 million tons to 3.090 million tonnes, an increase of 82.8%) and in particular , birds (of 3.55 million tonnes to 6.09 million tons, an increase of 71.5%).
The projections were prepared by the ministry in order to get some signal about the future. They were prepared based on 23 products that virtually total income of agricultural production. The estimates presented today, according Gasques, are the most conservative obtained in studies of the ministry.
