High productivity and stability of rain can help the country to have its largest grain crop, says Conab

Research indicates a production of 143.95 million tonnes

 

Every survey of the grain harvest 2009/2010 made by the National Supply Company (Conab), plus the total estimated harvest is approaching the record high, reached in the 2007/2008 cycle, from 144.1 million tonnes. A survey released on Tuesday, March 9, the sixth since the beginning of the harvest, indicates a production of 143.95 million tonnes.

The prediction - made on the basis of information collected by representatives of cooperatives and rural unions, public and private between 22 and 26 February - is already 6.5% higher than the 135.13 million tons from last season. Regarding the poll released last month, growth is 0.6%. The best evaluation, according to Conab, due to the high productivity and stability of rainfall in the areas of higher production.

Benefiting from the weather, soybeans, produced more grain in the country, is expected to reach 67.57 million tons, some 10 million tons more than last season. In the most produce, such as Mato Grosso, Goiás and Rio Grande do Sul, the collection had grown to over 50%.

Despite increased production, planted area was a small reduction of 19.3 thousand hectares, compared to the previous one, being in 47.65 million hectares. This result indicates the increase in productivity of crops.
